Magellan’s mission is to explore, develop, operate and close mines minimizing long-term environmental impact. The company recognises the importance of environmental management and is committed to implementing and maintaining best environmental practice, as well as continuously improving its environmental performance through review, assessment and reporting.
Magellan’s environmental management is also guided by its commitment to a wide range of licences and conditions that form part of its approvals to mine, concentrate, bag and transport lead concentrate. Wiluna Mine Site
The Magellan mine is approximately 30 kilometres from Wiluna, situated among low lying hills in a semi-desert environment. Magellan undertakes a comprehensive environmental monitoring program at the Wiluna site that includes air quality, water, soil and vegetation monitoring.
Transport Operations
The extensive environmental monitoring that is being conducted as part of the company's sealed shipment process is detailed in the Compliance section of this website. It includes air quality, soil and rainwater monitoring along the railway, with drainage sump and marine sediment sampling also undertaken at the Port of Fremantle.
