Health and Safety
Magellan places the utmost importance on the health and safety of our employees, contractors, visitors to our workplaces and the broader community. The company is committed to continually improving its health and safety performance, and to becoming an industry leader in health and safety management.
Wiluna Mine Site
Magellan's Health, Hygiene and Environmental Management Program (HHEManP) documents the procedures for all of Magellan's operations. This Program includes strict safety procedures designed to minimise, manage and control human exposure to lead at the mining and processing operations at the Wiluna mine site.
It aims to minimise blood-lead levels by preventing lead ingestion and inhalation through strict systems for containing and closely monitoring personal exposure and atmospheric dust emissions. Ongoing monitoring of blood-lead levels is conducted by independent medical personnel, using accredited medical laboratories for analysis.
The (HHEManP) has set the acceptable site blood-levels at well below the relevant national standards to protect the health and safety of employees and contractors. Employees or contractors whose blood-lead levels exceed the site limits are removed from lead risk activities, and provided further counseling and training to better manage exposure to lead.
Transport Operations
Magellan's conditions for sealed shipments through the Port of Fremantle contain a range of processes and transport operations, including monitoring and reporting requirements that protect the health and safety of the community (detailed in the HHEManP). Which are detailed in the Compliance section of this website and relevant monitoring reports will be published in this section as they become available.
